Child
Fearful Of All Doctors:
When
given appropriate and truthful information, most children do well with
their Dentist. Since kids can easily sense fear or concern in their
parents, they emulate this fear in themselves. Allow your dentist an
opportunity to work alone with your child. Once the Dentist has
developed a bond with your child, his/her behavior during treatment may
far exceed your expectations.
Positive
Dental Experience:
It
is possible for a child to have a positive dental experience, but much depends on the age of your child. If the child is two or
three years old and requires a substantial amount of treatment, it is not
likely that the child can sit through several long visits that involve
complicated procedures without some form of sedation. However, if
your child is older, or requires minimal treatment, the child's experience
at the dentist will probably be very positive. Prior to treatment
(totally independent of the child's scheduled 1st appointment), it is best
to bring your child to the dental office and let your Dentist and the
child meet one another. This will help you and the Dentist determine
how best to provide the kind of care you desire.
